Mt. Lebanon wins tough contest against Baldwin, 4-2
Mt. Lebanon gutted out a close 4-2 win against Baldwin.
Mt. Lebanon gained the winning advantage on a goal by Griffin Nelson 11:24 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.
Nelson had two goals and one assist to lead Mt. Lebanon. Nelson scored the first of his two goals at 8:32 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Mt. Lebanon. Max Manzo provided the assist. Nelson's next tally made the score 3-2 Mt. Lebanon with 8:36 left in the third period. Wyatt George picked up the assist.
Mt. Lebanon also got a goal from Kenneth Schrader as well. Other players who recorded assists for Mt. Lebanon were Anthony Sandora and Zach Rudoy, who contributed one each.
Baldwin put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Mt. Lebanon to score on any of its four power plays. Baldwin's offense rang up 35 shots on Mt. Lebanon's net.
Baldwin was led by Max Milan, who racked up one goal and one assist. Milan scored on the power play 16:35 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Mt. Lebanon. Baldwin earned a power play opportunity when Benjamin McGraw was put in the box for cross checking. Tyler Rush assisted on the tally. Cameron Greenaway also scored for Baldwin. In addition, Baldwin received assists from Paul Knerr, who had one.
Mt. Lebanon's Ryan Wetherington stopped 33 shots out of the 35 that he faced. Mt. Lebanon incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Cole Shannon made 23 saves for Baldwin on 26 shots. Baldwin incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
