Greater Latrobe falls to Plum after surprising comeback
Plum rallied from two goals down to secure a 5-4 win over Greater Latrobe.
Plum let multiple leads slip away before eventually digging out of a two hole to pick up the win. Plum took a 1-0 advantage on a power play goal by Stephen Shields at 8:13 in the first period. Plum found itself down 3-1 after Greater Latrobe's Daniel Johnson put the puck home at 5:57 in the second period. After knotting things up at 4-4 on a goal by Alexander Singley at 16:19 in the second, Plum got the game-winner from Ryan Loebig at 6:01 in the third period.
Nolan Puhala had two goals and one assist to lead Plum. Puhala scored the first of his two goals at 7:42 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Greater Latrobe. Dillon Joyce picked up the assist. Puhala's next tally made the score 3-3 with 10:24 left in the second period. Anthony Borriello assisted on the tally.
Plum additionally got points from Borriello, who also finished with one goal and three assists and Shields, who also had one goal and one assist. In addition, Plum received assists from Zach Keller, who had one.
Greater Latrobe forced Plum goalie Nathan Puhala to work between the pipes, taking 39 shots.
Greater Latrobe was helped by Jared Schimizzi, who registered one goal. Schimizzi scored 1:26 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Cole Novak picked up the assist. Greater Latrobe also got points from Johnson, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Singley, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Evan Clarke-Deaver also scored for Greater Latrobe. Other players who recorded assists for Greater Latrobe were Brendan Johns and Zachary Kubitz, who each chipped in one.
Puhala rejected 35 shots on goal for Plum. Plum incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Ryan Pal made 22 saves for Greater Latrobe on 27 shots. Greater Latrobe incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
