Serra Catholic survives Westmont Hilltop comeback, wins 8-7

Westmont Hilltop tried to dig itself out of a two-goal hole, but Serra Catholic held on for an 8-7 victory.

A goal by Roman Kraemer put Serra Catholic up 8-6 in the third period, but Westmont Hilltop pulled to within one on Corbin Ragno's tally 16:03 into the third period.

Kraemer had five goals to lead Serra Catholic to victory. Kraemer got on the scoresheet 3:52 into the second period. He then added goals at 8:01 into the second, at 15:11 into the second, and at 4:20 into the third.

The teams traded the lead four times and neither team could skate away and hide. Westmont Hilltop took its last lead at 3:51 in the third on a goal by Nicholas McQuillan to make the score 6-5 Westmont Hilltop. Serra Catholic took over the lead for good with a goal by Thomas Werner 8:11 into the third to make the score 7-6.

Serra Catholic kept Westmont Hilltop's goalie busy throughout the game, and David Cavrak made 37 saves on 45 shots.

Serra Catholic additionally got points from Zachary Zapata, who also registered one goal and one assist and Werner, who also racked up two goals and two assists. In addition, Serra Catholic received assists from Justin Hummert, who had three and Jacob Weiss, Joseph Goldstein, Richard Ware, and Daniel Swart, who each chipped in one.

Westmont Hilltop forced Serra Catholic goalie Jax Bulischeck to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots. Westmont Hilltop's goal total was higher than its season average. Westmont Hilltop has scored at the pace of 4.3 goals per game during the current campaign. Westmont Hilltop's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Westmont Hilltop also got points from McQuillan, who also racked up one goal and two assists, Nate Shorto, who also had one goal and two assists, Isac Jangard, who also registered one goal and two assists, and Jack Spencer, who also had one goal and two assists. Austin Degrange also scored for Westmont Hilltop. Other players who recorded assists for Westmont Hilltop were Team Bench, Ian Snider, and Lane McQuillan, who contributed one each.

Bulischeck recorded 30 saves for Serra Catholic. Serra Catholic incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Westmont Hilltop incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors.
