Early goals doom South Park, falls to Serra Catholic, 7-0

Serra Catholic opened up a five-goal lead after the first period and did not look back en route to a 7-0 win over South Park.

Justin Hummert was all over the ice for Serra Catholic, as he tallied four goals and two assists in the win. Hummert got on the scoresheet nine seconds into the first period. He then added goals at 3:28 into the first, at 13:14 into the first, and at 15:21 into the third.

Serra Catholic was boosted by Tyrik Barkley, who turned in a shutout with 35 saves. Barkley managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 4.98 prior to the game.

Serra Catholic forced South Park's goalies to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, ripping 38 shots and forcing 31 saves. Shane Walker made zero stops and Trevor Schlater made 31. Serra Catholic's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on nine South Park power plays. Serra Catholic was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 20 penalty minutes.

Serra Catholic also got points from Roman Kraemer, who also grabbed three goals and two assists. In addition, Serra Catholic received assists from Zachary Zapata, who had two and Michael Ulishney, Matthew Ulishney, and Dylan Wilding, who contributed one each.

South Park could not produce up to its normal offensive output. South Park averages 4.7 goals per game. South Park's offense rang up 35 shots on Serra Catholic's net. South Park could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 18 minutes in penalties during the game.

Serra Catholic registered one goal on eight power play opportunities.
