Butler uses big games from Gilliland and Ackelson to down Shaler, 9-5

Behind two goals and two assists from Trevor Gilliland and two goals and two assists from Brendan Ackelson, Butler downed Shaler 9-5.

Gilliland scored the first of his two goals at 8:50 into the third period to make the score 5-4 Butler. Ben Rodgers assisted on the tally. Gilliland's next tally made the score 7-4 Butler with 7:46 left in the third period. Ackelson picked up the assist. Ackelson scored the first of his two goals at 11:15 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Butler. Connor Scott assisted on the tally. Ackelson's next tally made the score 9-5 Butler with 5:49 left in the third period. Rodgers picked up the assist.

Butler's goal total was higher than its season average. Butler has scored at the pace of 4.4 goals per game during the current campaign. Penalties took their toll on Butler, as its penalty kill unit let in two power play goals. The defensemen of Butler were also effective in Shaler's zone, and came away with two goals.

Butler additionally got points from Jonathan Fair, who also racked up two goals and one assist, Ackelson, who also had two goals and two assists, Ronan Miller, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Sam Gross, who also had one goal and two assists. Butler also got a goal from Christopher Martin as well. In addition, Butler received assists from Cameron Barto and Colin Brady, who contributed one each.

Shaler excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. Shaler got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Shaler was led by Cameron Bardsley, who finished with one goal and three assists. Bardsley scored on the power play 6:21 into the third period to make the score 4-4. A roughing penalty on Barto had put Shaler on the power play. Jordan Ramsey assisted on the tally. Shaler also got points from Michael Fuchs, who also grabbed two goals and one assist and Zachary Sarnowski, who also registered one goal and one assist. Nathan Boch also scored for Shaler. Other players who recorded assists for Shaler were Joshua Brantner, who had one and Stephen Stayduhar, who had two.

Zachary Schnur made 23 saves for Butler on 28 shots. Butler incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Shaler's Paul Zalakar stopped 20 shots out of the 29 that he faced. Shaler incurred 38 minutes in penalty time with four minors. Shaler ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Mitchell Werry was ejected from the game.
