Central Catholic survives Seneca Valley comeback, wins 4-2
Seneca Valley tried to dig itself out of a three-goal hole, but Central Catholic held on for a 4-2 victory.
Central Catholic made the score 4-1 on a goal by Jake Tepe at 14:39 in the second period, and Seneca Valley got as close as 4-2 when Connor Williams scored 2:14 into the third period.
Central Catholic got the win on the strength of a great game by Sam Delucia, who had two goals and one assist. Delucia scored the first of his two goals at 40 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Central Catholic. Tepe picked up the assist. Delucia's next tally made the score 3-0 Central Catholic with 13:54 left in the second period. A tripping call on Tepe put Central Catholic on the penalty kill. Jacob Kingerski assisted on the tally.
Central Catholic also got points from Tepe, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Easton Alger also scored for Central Catholic. More assists for Central Catholic came via Brian Freyvogel and Domenic Scherer, who contributed one each.
Seneca Valley excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. Central Catholic was unable to stop Seneca Valley from sending pucks towards the net, and Seneca Valley eventually piled up 34 shots on goal. Seneca Valley could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game.
Seneca Valley also got a goal from Mac Michael as well. In addition, Seneca Valley received assists from Christopher Lipnicky, Nicholas Raible, and Alexander Crilley, who each chipped in one.
Central Catholic's Nathaniel Cava stopped 32 shots out of the 34 that he faced. Central Catholic incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Alyssa Peterson took the loss and made 14 saves before being replaced by Dylan Sloat who made one save. Seneca Valley registered one goal on four power play opportunities.
