Wheeling Catholic holds on for 4-3 win against Sewickley Academy

Sewickley Academy tried to dig itself out of a two-goal hole, but Wheeling Catholic held on for a 4-3 victory.

Wheeling Catholic made the score 4-2 on a goal by Luke Edgerton at 14:02 in the third period, and Sewickley Academy got as close as 4-3 when Willie Paul scored 16:58 into the third period.

Wheeling Catholic got the win behind a great game by Edgerton, who had two goals and one assist. Edgerton scored the first of his two goals at 35 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wheeling Catholic. Kyle Wensel provided the assist. Edgerton's next tally made the score 4-2 Wheeling Catholic with 5:58 left in the third period. Wheeling Catholic played down a man on Derek Dearth's interference. Cole Edgerton picked up the assist.

Wheeling Catholic excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Wheeling Catholic's offense rang up 50 shots on Sewickley Academy's net.

Wheeling Catholic also got points from Edgerton, who also tallied one goal and one assist. In addition, Wheeling Catholic received assists from Matthew Turziano, who had one.

Sewickley Academy was led by Joey Straka, who finished with one goal and two assists. Straka scored 12:13 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Wheeling Catholic. Michael Hertzberg assisted on the tally. Jack Duggan also scored for Sewickley Academy. Other players who recorded assists for Sewickley Academy were Ryan Gex, who had one.

Jacob Laurine rejected 19 shots on goal for Wheeling Catholic. Wheeling Catholic incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Sewickley Academy's Cole Luther stopped 46 shots out of the 50 that he faced. Sewickley Academy incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
