Hornick nets hat trick, leads South Fayette to 10-3 win over Wheeling Park
Alexander (Alex) Hornick netted a hat trick to lead South Fayette over Wheeling Park, 10-3.
Hornick's first goal came 5:49 into the first period. He then added goals at 16:51 into the first and at 11:50 into the third.The game was close after the first frame, but South Fayette banged in four goals during the second period to put the victory out of reach for Wheeling Park.
Wheeling Park was unable to stop South Fayette from sending pucks towards the net, and South Fayette eventually piled up 36 shots on goal. South Fayette surpassed its usual scoring output this season. This season, South Fayette averages 3.4 goals per contest. South Fayette did not rack up many penalties in the contest, totaling just one minor for 12 minutes in penalty time. South Fayette cashed in on power play opportunities, scoring two goals on three chances. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.
South Fayette also got points from Jordan Timmons, who also registered three goals and one assist, Logan McConnell, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Spencer Barber, who also tallied one goal and three assists, and John (Jack) Lipovich, who also had two goals and one assist. Wheeling Park was led by Hunter Pavelich, who registered two goals. Pavelich scored the first of his two goals at 1:16 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wheeling Park. Nathan Bole picked up the assist. Pavelich's next tally made the score 2-1 Wheeling Park with 11:26 left in the first period. Cameron Eberhard assisted on the tally. Wheeling Park also got a goal from Brice Lucas as well. Other players who recorded assists for Wheeling Park were Cameron Eberhard and Zachary Kahle, who each chipped in one.
South Fayette's Kyle Sharp stopped 19 shots out of the 22 that he faced. Austin Slie rejected 26 shots on goal for Wheeling Park. Wheeling Park incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
