Wheeling Park survives Sewickley Academy comeback, wins 4-3

Sewickley Academy tried to dig itself out of a two-goal hole, but Wheeling Park held on for a 4-3 victory.

A goal by Luke Knollinger put Wheeling Park up 4-2 in the third period, but Sewickley Academy pulled to within one on Ryan Gex's tally 16:22 into the third period.

Knollinger had a great game for Wheeling Park, netting two goals.

Wheeling Park put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Sewickley Academy to score on any of its three power plays.

Wheeling Park also got points from Nikita Slivchenko, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Shawn Guthoerl also scored for Wheeling Park. In addition, Wheeling Park received assists from Austin Curnes, who had two and Zachary Kahle, Nathan Bole, and Jefferson Gwynn, who each chipped in one.

Sewickley Academy got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Sewickley Academy was helped by Don Gex, who registered one goal and one assist. Gex scored 13:26 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Sewickley Academy. Sewickley Academy additionally got points from Michael Hertzberg, who also finished with one goal and one assist. More assists for Sewickley Academy came via Henry Meakem, who had one.

Dorothy Romanek recorded 24 saves for Wheeling Park. Wheeling Park incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Sewickley Academy's Cole Luther stopped 25 shots out of the 29 that he faced. Sewickley Academy incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
