COLONIALS WIN 5-1 OVER DAVENPORT AT NATIONALS!!
St. Louis, MO- RMU postseason run continues following their 5-1 victory Friday night over Davenport. Their reward for winning will be advancing to the quarterfinals today to take on #7 Indiana Tech. It will be the 3rd game of the afternoon on the Maryville arena ice and puck drop is at 4:45 pm Eastern.
Colonial Recap:
Robert Morris enters today's game after winning 5-1 two days earlier against #15 Davenport. While it was a strong victory to move out of the opening round, there are still some adjustments the Colonials will be making before their meeting with Indiana Tech. Particularly to tighten up the defense in front of goalie Kevin Mackey. He looked stellar but busy against Davenport, stopping 34 of 35 Panther shots. The team did a good job making sure most of those chances were from low percentage scoring areas. They'll be looking to continue that into this afternoon's game.
While the early goals were from deeper in the RMU lineup, some of the top scorers from the regular season came to play. Nathan Mickey scored twice in the victory and Joey Zottola added a goal and an assist. Goals from players like Trevor Kleckner and Camron Smith show that the scoring touch runs deeper than just the top line, and encouraging sight for Colonials' coaches and fans. RMU got outshot 35-33 in their game but this can partially be attributed to leading 4-1 after the first.
