Junior hockey: Ice Hawks come up empty in Wisconsin
OREGON, Wis. — The Rochester Ice Hawks saw their losing skid extended to four games on Friday night, getting shut out for the third time in four games in a 5-0 loss to the Wisconsin Whalers in a North American 3 Hockey League game.
The Whalers scored twice in the first period to take the lead for good.
Ben Ratner scored twice for Wisconsin (21-11-0 overall), while Matthew Carr, Russel Barone and Rochester Mayo graduate Tommy Hanson scored once each.
The Whalers outshot the Ice Hawks 33-28. Rochester (9-22-1 overall) goalie Kyle Plantz made 28 saves in the loss, while Whalers goalie Max McConnell recorded a 28-save shutout.
Rochester plays host to Wisconsin at 7:05 p.m. tonight at the Rochester Recreation Center in the second of four consecutive games between the teams.
The Whalers and Ice Hawks will also play twice at the Rec Center next week, at 7:05 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
