2018-2019 Schedule Preview
Rochester Hills, MI – The Rochester College hockey program is excited to release the schedule for the 2018-2019 season. The 2018-2019 season will mark the Warriors sixth season in Division 1 of the ACHA and their fourth season in the GLCHL. Rochester will look to improve on their historical record of 69-104. The 35 game regular season schedule features 6 games against teams that finished the 2017-2018 season ranked in the top 10 nationally, including two games against national champion Adrian College.
The Warriors will open up the season by welcoming the Robert Morris University (IL) Eagles to Fraser Hockeyland. The Eagles finished the previous season ranked #7 in country. Robert Morris has won all 5 previous meetings against the Warriors. Following the series against the Eagles, Rochester will hit the road to face off against a familiar foe, Indiana Tech, before returning home to play a two game series against the defending national champion, Adrian College Bulldogs.
Next, the Warriors will play a rare Sunday game, as they host Aquinas College before meeting up against Western Michigan the following weekend. Rochester has faced the Stallions of Western Michigan 17 times over the past five years and earned a record of 9-8.
The Jug of Rochester Hills will be on the line as Rochester College face off against the cross-town rival Oakland University Grizzlies in the first two games of The Jug series. The Grizzlies took possession of The Jug last season by sweeping the two game series by a combined score of 9-2. Since the 2013-2014 season, the Warriors and Grizzlies have alternated possession of The Jug and the Warriors will look to keep that trend going by getting off to a fast start in the series.
The Warriors will wrap up the Fall semester by playing 8 of the next 11 games on the road. RC will travel to: Buffalo to play in a weekend showcase against other ACHA Division 1 foes, Kent State University to play two GLCHL conference games, Lawrence Tech, Calvin and Davenport for the first of two conference games against the Panthers.
Rochester College will come back from the break playing two games against the first-year Concordia Cardinal’s hockey program before hosting the Redbirds from Illinois State University. After the Redbirds, the Warriors will hop on the bus for an extended road trip to the famed LaHaye Ice Center in Lynchburg, VA to face off against the Liberty Flames, after which, the Warriors will meet Oakland for the final two games to decide who wins The Jug.
The following two weekends will feature GLCHL rivals Eastern Michigan University and the University of Michigan, Dearborn before ending the regular season against Lawrence Tech. The Warriors will finish the season, in March, with the GLCHL Conference Tournament and the WHAC Invitational before the National Tournament in Dallas, TX, March 21-26.
Coach Cagnet's comments on the schedule: "This may be the most competitive first semester we have faced in terms of the strength of our schedule and we welcome the challenge of playing some of the best teams in the country and our conference early in the season. As you look up and down our schedule, you can see very quickly how important it is to be prepared to play our best hockey every night. There's no such thing as an easy game in our league so we need to make sure we put together as many complete 60 minute games as possible and if we can do that on a consistent basis, we will have some success."
