The 2022-2023 SECHL season kicked off with both finalists from last season's playoffs sweeping their season series. Clarkson hosted Marist College last weekend in back-to-back games. The Knights took the game 6-4 and received 2 goals from returner Ty Hlywa as Clarkson held off a late Marist rally in the third period as they pulled within 1 goal late. Hlywa added an empty net goal to solidify the win. The next game wouldn't be so close as Clarkson received 9 goals for 8 different goal scorers taking the game 9-1.

Defending champions Army also kicked off the season winning both games at Siena College. The Knights would need overtime to hold off the Saints in game 1. Chris Tamer would score his third goal of the game in overtime as Army slipped by Siena. In game 2, Siena would cut the 3-goal Knights' lead to 1 in the third period, before Tamer would find the back of the net for his fourth of the season. Army would take the game in regulation 4-2.

Montclair State University hosted Marist College and Central Connecticut State this weekend in league play as well. Montclair State received 2 goals from Mike Miller as they squeaked past Marist on Friday night 2-1. On Saturday they received two more goals from Miller and four from freshman Antonio Crispino as the Red Hawks clipped CCSU by a score of 8-3. Montclair State will take on Sacred Heart this Friday at Montclair State Arena.
