Siena Takes Game 1 of I-87 Series, Splaine Blanks Montclair State

The Siena Saints took game one in their annual I-87 best-of-three series against interstate rival Marist College by a score of 7-2. The Red Foxes struck first on an early Andrew Ohman tally, but the Saints would quickly take the lead scoring four goals over the next 17 minutes of gameplay. Marist would cut the deficit to 2 late in the second, but Siena would add three in the third period of play to take the game 7-2. Cole Pasquini finished the night with two goals for the Saints and goaltender Matt McCarthy would stop 34 of 36 Red Fox shots.

In the only league contest over the weekend, Sacred Heart defeated Montclair State by a score of 3-0, adding a late empty-net goal with 6 seconds left to complete the shutout. The Pioneers received a goal per period from Chad Schneider, Max Brown, and Christos Caminis (EN). Corey Splaine stopped all 34 Red Hawk shots including two breakaways and several power-play opportunities. Ondrej Smalec also had a tremendous game turning away 41 of 43 Pioneer shots before Caminis' empty net goal put the final stamp on the game.

Also in play, Clarkson traveled to the University of Vermont to participate in the Catamount Classic. After dropping their opening game to the University of Maine 5-3, the Knights rebounded with an impressive 7-2 win against Norwich. The Knights would also face the University of Vermont. In a tight game, Clarkson fell 3-2 in a tight game. In the consolation game, Clarkson would once again defeat Norwich by a score of 7-3.
