Sacred Heart Climbs into the #2 Spot with Win Vs. Marist
Headed into the semester break there was some shifts to the SECHL standings. While Army still sits in the first spot, Sacred Heart has risen into the #2 slot with their win against Marist in early December. The Pioneers still have three league remaining against two teams behind them in the standings. If Army is able to sweep Clarkson in January and Sacred Heart is able to win their remaining three games against Montclair (2) and Siena, it would come down to a tiebreaker to establish the #1 seed for the playoffs which are as follows:
- Points
- Regulation Wins
- Head to Head results
- Goal Differential
As of now, each team has won 1 game in overtime in league play. Whatever plays our in both teams remaining schedules will provide a lot of entertainment down the stretch.
Clarkson can move as high as 1st place and fall as low as 4th place, but currently sits firmly in the third spot. If Clarkson is able to win one or both games against Army, the Golden Knights can potentially move into that 2nd spot pending on what Sacred Heart does in their remaining three games. Siena, who has really played well in their last 6 games of the semester, has one game remaining against Sacred Heart in the second half. With a victory in that game, the Saints could move as high as 2nd place pending the results from the Clarkson games against Army and remaining two games Montclair State that Sacred Heart has yet to play. Montclair State can also move up as high as 2nd place with 2 wins against Sacred Heart and help from the Pioneers in their game against Siena and an Army sweep of Clarkson.
While Marist cannot advance out of the 6 seed, they will take on the 3rd seeded team in the playoffs and can play spoilers with "home ice" as the SECHL Playoff host. The remaining schedule should provide plenty of entertainment in the second half of the season.
