Men's Club Ice Hockey Take Two Games to Make CHMA Standing 4 -1

Game One: Slippery Rock VS Mercyhurst University

Friday, November 16th, Slippery Rock opened their weekend of back to back CHMA match up games against Mercyhurst University. The Rock was looking to break their four-game losing streak.

The first period started off strong for the Rock, at 15:18 into the first Thomas Kimmick would net the first goal of the game, with Jamie Mauro and CJ Campbell picking up an assist. Just minutes later, Nathan Mettenburg would also find the back of the net with the help of Jamie Mauro and Kevin Koett. In the first, both teams were assessed a penalty a piece one to the Rocks Rob Swinderman (2:00mins) for Tripping and Mercyhurst D. Zangaro (2:00mins) for tripping. After the first, Rock lead 2-0.

The second period was quite for the most part, but a big goal from Nathan Mettenburg to make it his second of the game with Sean Patt getting the assist.

Going into the third period the Rock was looking to seal the deal, but none the less Mercyhurst was not planning on letting them take the game that easily. Mercyhurst would score four minutes into the 3rd by R. Giansante assisted by M. Bevilacqua. Soon after the Lakers would answer against scoring just a few minutes later from D. Zangaro assisted by E. Mackenzie. At 9:13 into the 3rd, the Lakers would tie the game up at 3-3 from A. Nishino assisted by R. Giansante and T. Decosse. As the game pressed on, it seemed both teams were not going to give up on the game and we were going to head into some overtime hockey. With under 2:00 minutes to play in regulation the Rock takes a time out, soon after Thomas Kimmick finds the back of the net assisted by Jamie Mauro. The Lakers look to make one final push, but with the help from Shane Riley, Jamie Mauro was able to seal the deal by tapping one into the empty net of Mercyhurst. The final score was Slippery Rock 5, Mercyhurst 3.

The team looks to split the series with Duquesne the next day at the Alpha Ice Complex.

Game Two: Slippery Rock vs Duquesne 

Saturday, November 17th the Rock traveled to Alpha Ice Complex to take on Duquesne University. The Rock looked to even the series between the Dukes.

At 2:31 into the period Brendan Ackelson heads to the penalty box to put the Rock down a man. Soon after Duquesne would find the back of the net from S. Llyod assisted from D. Bigley and J. Todd. Just before the period ended Thomas Kimmick would score unassisted to even the game up 1-1 to end the first.

Both teams continued to battle hard in the second period, Duquesne however would find the back of the net from S. Lloyd for his second of the night, assisted by J. Todd and P. Breslow. Soon after Duquesne would respond again from B. Kozak assisted by F. Rotello and M. Hubert. To finish out the scoring of the period the Rock would pull within one from Jamie Mauro assisted by Antonio Esposito. After 2 the score was Duquesne 3, Slippery Rock 2.

Slippery Rock came out into the third period buzzing looking to even the score. The Rock added pressure to Duquesne defense and eventually the Rock would tie the score from Christian Miller unassisted. With just 1:06 left in the 3rd period Thomas Kimmick would find the back of the net assisted by Antonio Esposito and Jamie Mauro.

Slippery Rock took the victory in the rematch against Duquesne putting up 52 shots on A. Taylor.

With the victory and game winning goal Thomas Kimmick now holds the record by most goals scored by a player for Slippery Rock. The Rock looks to re-energize over the Thanksgiving break and comeback to finish out 2018 year with games against, WVU, Canisius, IUP and RMU.
