Nationals end Lincolns season

GAME 4

            In St. Marys Tuesday March 20th the Lincolns scored 3 third period goals to break a 1-1 tie and win the game 4-1 and evened the series up at 2-2.

           The teams traded powerplay goals in the 1st period and the 2nd period was scoreless. Lincolns first period goal was by Reid Oliver.

             Blake Thompson scored a powerplay goal at the 5:16 mark of the period to break the tie and then at 15:29 Calvin Penney stole the puck and went in alone on a  breakaway and his wrist shot found the net to make it a 3-1 lead and then a empty net goal by Brady Wiffen shorthanded finished the scoring off.

GAME 5

            The Nationals again came out early taking control and led 2-0 at the end of one and took a 3-0 lead early in the 2nd period. The Lincolns battled back with 2 goals, one by Sean Consitt on the powerplay and then a great pass by Brendan Merritt set up Mike Manderelli to make it 3-2 but the Nationals had restored their 3 goal lead before the period ended and led 5-2 going into the 3rd and they added 2 more in the 3rd to win the game 7-2 and take a 3-2 series lead.

GAME 6

            Over 1100 people were in attendance in St. Marys Friday night hoping the Lincolns could extend the series to a game 7 in London. For the 6th game in the series the Nationals scored the 1st goal and took a 1-0 lead to the dressing room. In the 2nd period a 2 man advantage helped the Lincolns tie the game up as Sean Consitt scored his 7th goal of the playoffs to make it a 1-1 game. The game was a tight defensive struggle with both goalies making big saves. It looked like it could be heading to overtime but the Nationals broke the tie with a at the midway mark of the period and the Lincolns had some great chances to get the tying goal but it wasn't meant to be and the Nats added a empty net goal with 33 seconds left to seal the victory.

The Nationals head to the final to play the 7th place Strathroy Rockets who upset 2nd place Leamington in Round 1 and then first place Sarnia winning the final game in 3OT period. So now the Rockets will see if they can beat 3rd place Nationals in the final in the Western Conference.

In the Midwest its the battle of the top 2 teams as Brantford (1st) and Stratford (2nd) face off and in the Golden Horseshoe its St. Catharines (1st) against Port Colborne (3rd)

Calvin Penney led the Lincolns in the playoffs with 8 goals while Brady Wiffen and Sean Consitt tied for the team lead in Points in the playoffs with 16 points each. Wiffen scored 3 shorthanded goals in the playoffs.
