Stars down Lincolns 4-1
The St. Thomas Stars earned their first win of the season defeating the St. Marys Lincolns 4-1. It was a hard fought battle. Both teams showed a lot of emotion and at times it got a little rough, but the Stars prevailed.
St. Marys got off to a quick start with Darcy Winkler burying one early from Blair Butchart and Carter Schoonerwoerd. Liam Fedak responded for the Stars a few minutes later, potting his first of the season and first as a Star from Jackson Brown and Brayden Smith. Russell Oldham joined in on the fun as well, scooping up a loose rebound on the power play. Assists came from Carson Moniz and Jackson Brown.
The second period was scoreless, despite there being four power play opportunities, 3-1 in favour of the Lincolns. The Stars penalty kill stepped up, along with Kevin Linker who made some timely saves between the pipes in his Junior B debut.
The Stars increased their lead early in the third again on the power play and the Lincolns were unable to respond. Carson Moniz picked up the goal with assists coming from Liam Fedak and Jackson Brown. Branden Speziale also scored an empty netter late in the game from Cal Horvat, giving him his first goal as a Star.
The Stars hope to keep the momentum going into tomorrow night as they're back home at the JTTC facing the Sarnia Legionnaires. Come out and cheer on your St. Thomas Stars!
