Stars bounce back with OT win
The St. Thomas Stars win a thriller in overtime, beating the Chatham Maroons 5-4, and remain undefeated on the road.
Much like Friday night, the Stars and Maroons left the first period knotted at one. Thomas McLatchie struck first for the Stars from Lucas Mastroianni and Darren Beattie. Jake O'Donnell tied it up minutes later from Matt Murray and Nolan Gardiner.
The Stars once again struggled in the second period. Josh DiCarlo put the Maroons up 2-1, with Cameron Welch and Jack Zekelman. Mathew Shuckettresponded quickly with Liam Fedak assisting.
The latter half of the period the Stars found them self short-handed more often than not and the Maroons made sure to make them pay. Eddie Shulz picked up two power play goals in the winding seconds of the period. Sean O'Brien assisted on both goals, and Jake O'Donnell and Adam Harris also picked up assists.
With fears of a repeat of Friday night's loss to Chatham looming in their minds, the Stars buckled down in the third period, and this time it was their turn to capitalize on the power play. With the man advantage, Thomas McLatchie scored his second of the game from Cal Horvat and Jordan Hurtubise. A few minutes later, Mathew Shuckett also put home his second of the game with Liam Fedak and Darren Beattie picking up their second assists of the game.
With the score tied 4-4, Darren Beattie tipped in a Jake Robinson shot just over a minute into the first overtime period to send the boys home with the win. Anthony Hurtubise picked up the win in goal with a great bounce back game.
The Stars will be on the road again in Leamington Thursday, October 4th. Hear the game on myFM.
