Stars win at home

The St. Thomas Stars bounced back big at home, beating the Lasalle Vipers 6-3.

The Stars Russell Oldham opened the scoring just over two minutes into the first period. Call up from the Lambton Jr. Sting, Colton Wiacek and Lucas Mastroianni assisted. Later in the period, Brayden Smith made a long cross ice pass to Thomas McLatchie who sped around the defender, pulled the goalie across the net and roofed the puck on his backhand.

Lasalle put forth a great effort in the second period, scoring just over a minute into the period. Jack Bowler picked up the point from Abdul Abouzeeni. The Stars Nicolas Grandy responded with a goal of his own from Sean McGurn and Mastroianni. The last three minutes of the second were quite chaotic, with the Vipers scoring two quick goals. Danny Skinner scored the first from Spencer Paradis, and AJ Ryan got the second, short handed, from Abouzeeni.

But the period didn't end there. Three seconds before the buzzer, the Stars took back the lead. Jackson Brown put home the power play goal from Jake Robinson and Oldham picked up his second point of the night.

The Stars added two more in the third period. Mastroianni scored from Mathew Shuckett and Robinson. And as time wound down, Robinson picked up his third point of the night with an unassisted, empty net goal. The Vipers made an aggressive push late in the game, but Anthony Hurtubise was in the zone between the pipes. He made thirty-two saves, one of which was an absolute beauty late in the third.
