From Press Release

Lorain, OH — The Lorain County Ironmen are pleased to announce exciting changes for the 2015 baseball season at the Pipe Yard, powered by First Energy.

Beginning in April, the Ironmen will welcome many of Northeast Ohio’s premier high school baseball teams to the Pipe Yard. The Pipe Yard will once again host local teams such as Lorain High School, which is already in its third season. Beginning this season it will also host teams such as Strongsville, St. Edward, and 2014 State qualifier Massillon Jackson. On May 1 and 2, the Pipe Yard will host the inaugural Ironmen High School Classic. The four teams participating in the Classic are Amherst, Mentor, St. Ignatius and Walsh Jesuit.

“We are excited to be able to give the people of Lorain County, the opportunity to experience the best high school baseball in the state of Ohio," Ironmen manager Kevin Rhomberg said. “By having teams that are consistently ranked in the State’s top 10 polls, baseball fans in Lorain County will be able to see some of the best players in Ohio.”

The Ironmen will also be making a move out of the Prospect League and into the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League. This is a move designed for geographical advantages, and ease of travel for the players. Fans will not see a drop in the quality of baseball. The Great Lakes League is a Major League Baseball sponsored summer collegiate wood bat league, which helps to draw top collegiate prospects. For example, current Cleveland Indian Nick Swisher played in the Great Lakes League.

The Great Lakes League is located in Ohio, Michigan and Kentucky. Ten of the 12 teams are located throughout Ohio.

The Ironmen will begin play in June at the Pipe Yard, powered by First Energy. They will play a 44-game schedule, with 22 home games scheduled for the Pipe Yard.

“We are very excited to have Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League baseball coming to Lorain and we are looking forward to a long lasting relationship,” Ironmen General Manager Pat McGannon said.
