Recap of Yesterday’s Alaska Baseball League Games

In the first ABL game played yesterday, the Chugiak Chinooks doubled up the Alaska Goldpanners 6-3. Conner Menez of the Chinooks by way of The Master’s College picked up a no-decision, but he still threw the ball really well. He allowed just two runs in 6.1 innings pitched.  Fellow The Master’s College hurler Jason Karkenny threw a scoreless 9th and picked up the save for the Chinooks.

The Mat-Su Miners Alex Caruso (St. John’s) hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the 9th to seal the win for the Miners over the Peninsula Oilers. Mat-Su’s Calvin LeBrun (Gonzaga) allowed just one run in his 7.2 innings pitched. He also fanned five batters in his start. Brick Paskiewicz (Paradise Valley CC) picked up the win after pitching the final 1.1 innings in yesterday’s ballgame.

ABL Notes from June 18th.

  • After his four-hit game last night, Alex Caruso (St. John’s) is now hitting .458 for the Mat-Su Miners. Alex spent last summer with Vermont of the NECBL.
  • Chugiak’s Michael Staudinger (Azusa Pacific) had a big pinch-hit last night and is now hitting .323 in 31 at-bats this season.
