Keene Drops Doubleheader Again
The Keene SwampBats dropped two Monday night games against the Newport Gulls, falling 2-0 in game one and 12-3 in game two.
The day was eerily similar to the doubleheader Keene (19-24) dropped to Ocean State on Friday, with a close loss in game one featuring some quality pitching. Andrew Houde took the hard luck loss, allowing two earned runs on three hits in five innings against Newport (19-22). Jack Little took the win with three innings of no-hit ball in the middle frames of the game.
Game two was an offensive blowout for the Gulls, collecting twelve runs on twelve hits. Charles King took the win for Newport with four innings and three runs allowed. Matt Gill took the loss for Keene despite being staked to a 3-2 lead going into the fifth inning. He did not record a single out while allowing six runs.
The SwampBats travel to Sanford to take on the Mainers on Tuesday. With a win or a Winnepesaukee loss, Keene clinches a playoff spot. Going into their final eight games, the SwampBats only needed two wins to advance to the postseason; they’ve gone 1-6 so far.
