Navigators Take Down SwampBats 10-0

June 11, 2021
9:57 PM EDT

The SwampBats entered Friday night in search of their first win of the year over a team other than the Sanford Mainers.

Left-handed pitcher Zach Davidson (Lincoln Trail) started his second game of the season for the SwampBats, and struck out the side in the bottom of the first.

Keene hadn’t fared any better in its half of the first, so the two teams were scoreless entering the second. North Shore starting pitcher Luke Marshall replicated his opening frame, keeping the SwampBats scoreless.

However, in the bottom of the second, Davidson allowed one run to cross the plate after three passed balls in that frame.

In the top of the third, Mike Nyisztor (Rutgers) reached base after being hit by a pitch and Tommy Joseph (Jacksonville) followed suit with a single. Both were stranded however after David Bryant (Radford) flew out. To end the inning.

The score remained 1-0. Until the bottom of the fourth. Davidson retired the first two hitters he faced,  then allowed the next three to reach, which loaded the bases. Manager Shaun McKenna opted for a pitching change to right-hander Calvin Bickerstaff (Kent State). By the time Bickerstaff got out of the inning, North Shore had extended the lead to 6-0.

That was all the insurance runs the Navigators would need, as their pitching continued to dominate Keene hitters.

David Bryant singled in the 6th, Carlos Guzman (Northwest Florida State) doubled in the 7th, and Michael Nyisztor singled in the 8th. Those hits rounded out the SwampBats offensive effort, and all three of them were stranded on base.

The SwampBats get back in action tomorrow night at home against the Vermont Mountaineers at Alumni Field at 6:30 pm.
