The (3-1) Bristol Blues drove into town and clashed with the SwampBats and the ‘Bats were up to the task in maybe their biggest test yet. Nearly 1800 fans made their way to Alumni Field to watch the contest.
The Blues jumped out to an early lead but it took no time before the SwampBats came storming back to tie the game in the third. Jackson Ross (Florida Atlantic University) ripped his team-leading seventh RBI of the season and the game knotted at 1 after three.
Riley Skeen (Florida Southwestern St. College) got the nod for the SwampBats, his first start of the season. Skeen lasted four innings and struck out five. Skeen now has a team-leading 10 punchouts and his start gave the SwampBats offense a great chance to win.
Jaden Brown (University of Texas Arlington) got the SwampBats their first lead of the night by launching a 366 feet two-run home run deep into left field. In a park where there are a lot of cheap shots, this one was as legit as it comes for the right-handed slugger. The SwampBats would continue to pour it on in the fifth after back-to-back hits from Tony Santa Maria (Rutgers University) and Dan Covino (Central Connecticut St. University). Covino picked up an RBI on a base hit and then Carter Mathison (Indiana University) picked one up on a sacrifice fly. The SwampBats would lead 5-1 after five.
The SwampBats had once again great support from their bullpen. Zachary Davidson (Radford University), William Flanigan (Radford University), Greyson Carter (Vanderbilt University), and lastly, Parker Murphy (Jacksonville University) all helped in the winning effort. Carter finished the 8th, and Murphy collected his second consecutive save.
