Montpelier, VT

The Vermont Mountaineers beat the SwampBats 7-0 on Tuesday night.

The SwampBats loaded the bases with one out in the top of the third on an Evan Goforth (Indiana) double, a Christian Mercedes (Southern New Hampshire) walk, and a Brayden Horton (Liberty) single, but they could not cash in. Vermont got on the board with an RBI double in the bottom half. Kyle Roche (Franklin Pierce) got the start in his SwampBats’ debut, finishing with one run allowed over three innings, striking out two. Joe Mazza (Rutgers) pitched a one-two-three fourth but Vermont scored four runs on four hits and two errors in the bottom of the fifth. Brad Edwards Jr. (Lasell) pitched the sixth for Keene, in which Vermont expanded their lead to 7-0 with a two-run home run to left.

The SwampBats loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the eighth inning looking to get on the board but were again stifled. Edwards Jr. pitched a scoreless seventh and eighth inning for the Bats. The SwampBats’ only hits in the game were in the third inning as Vermont punched their ticket to the playoffs with the win.

Keene (13-26) is on the road again tomorrow at Upper Valley.
