KENNEWICK, WA - The Outlaws Owner Jordan Owen announced today that the Outlaws have hired Geno McCue as the Head Coach for the 2015 - 2016 Season.

McCue is replacing Head Coach Anthony Oucharek who is becoming the team’s education coordinator for the season.

“The organization would like to thank Coach O for all that he did this season.  He was asked to come into a situation that most wouldn’t be able to take control of but we feel that he did the best with the hand that he was given.  Anthony will still be with us as the Education coordinator and we know he will do well at this position,” stated Owen.

Coach McCue has spent the year in the Tri-City area coaching within the local youth hockey league.  Before that McCue spent many seasons coaching in Colorado, Las Vegas and Montana for various youth leagues coaching both of his sons which one of them, Beau McCue, is currently playing for the Tri-City Americans of the Western Hockey League.  In 2010, McCue and the Bantam AA Las Vegas Jr. Storm captured the USA Hockey Tier II National Championship.

"Geno is a great addition for our team as we are looking to start fresh after coming off a disappointing season," stated Owen.  "We need a leader, someone who is invested in these kids and where they are going with not only their hockey career but with their schooling as well."

This will be McCue's first time behind a junior hockey bench as a coach but it doesn't concern the organization.

"With the experience that McCue has with coaching his own son and many other amateur players that are looking to get to the next level we feel that this is a great choice for this organization that wants a coach to build players from the ground up.  We aren't wanting the most talented players, we are wanting the players that have the drive to make themselves better as an individual but also understand what it means to be a team player," expressed Owen.

McCue’s philosophies of player development will fit in great with not only the Outlaws goals but the leagues as well.  The NPHL is a league of development for the players with focus on their skill development as well as their academic achievements.  Without these two, players will find it harder to get recruited by schools.

McCue is ready to get going and had this to say about the players that he is looking for, “I look for players who understand that team is more important than the individual.  Team work is what makes a successful player and therefore a successful team.  My job as the coach is to teach players how to use and develop their skills to their best ability, how to work as a team, have fun and win.”

“In the upcoming season, my expectations are simple.  Develop a culture of winning and belief in each other.  I’m excited for this opportunity and thank the Outlaws organization for this opportunity,” expressed McCue.

The Outlaws Evaluation Camp is coming up on May 16th and 17th at the Toyota Arena in Kennewick.  This is open to all players with birth years of 1995-1999.  Contact us via email at jowen@tcoutlawshockey.com for more information and camp registration.
