WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, Vt. – The Upper Valley Nighthawks got strong pitching from starter Cameron Alldred (Batavia, Ohio/U of Cincinnati), who helped to shut out the Vermont Mountaineers, 4-0 on Thursday in the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL).
The Mountaineers offense struggled to get anything going in the contest, as they managed just three hits. Alldred combined with relievers Sean Fronzak (Naperville, Ill./St Louis) and Cory Gill (Cottonwood, Al./ Troy) to strike out eight and walk three in the game.

Vermont starter Rayne Supple (Shelburne, Vt./ Wake Forest) pitched four and one third innings, giving up three runs on eight hits. The Vermont native struck out four batters and walked one. Supple suffered his third loss of the season.

Alldred pitched six complete innings, giving up two hits and no runs. Alldred struck out five batters and walked one. The lefty picked up his fourth win of the season.

The Nighthawks started the scoring in the game when Luke Reynolds (Forest, Miss./ Southern Mississippi) scored from third base on a double-play ball to give Upper Valley a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth.

Upper Valley extended their lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the sixth with a RBI single by Al Molina (Freehold, N.J./ Seton Hall), driving in Matt Sanders (Madison, Al./ Troy) and Anthony Godino (Thornwood, N.Y./ Wagner).

Tyler Fitzgerald (Peabody, Mass./Southern Maine) came in in relief for the Mountaineers and pitched two and two thirds innings. Fitzgerald gave up one run on two hits while walking one batter.

Anthony Godino led off the bottom of the seventh inning with a solo home run to left field to give the 'Hawks the 4-0 lead that would ultimately hold up.

The Mountaineers threatened in the third inning, putting two runners in scoring position with one out. Shortstop Michael Hartnagel (Brownsburg, Ind./Butler) reached on an error and catcher Jeffery Scott (Forest, Ind./Bowling Green State) singled, but both were stranded. The Mountaineers put only three runners in scoring position in the contest.

Vermont (15-19) will return home on Friday to face the Ocean State Waves. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. at Montpelier Recreation Field. The game can be heard on CBS Sports 1240-AM WSKI or online via The NECBL Broadcast Network.
