Off-Season Acquisitions
The Toronto Jr. A Canadiens have had a busy off-season so far with just under 5 weeks to go until Main Camp opens up for the 18-19 Ontario Junior Hockey League season. After bringing in new Head Coach, Vince Bellissimo, and an extensive Hockey Operations staff the team has had close to a half of a roster to fill.
The first acquisition for the team this summer was the signing of Liam Fedak from the St. Thomas Stars of the GOJHL. Liam played in the GOJHL Top Prospects game while putting up 40 points in 50 games. He was also an Affiliate Player with the Jr. A Canadiens during the 18-19 season suiting up for a few games.
Next the Jr. A Canadiens brought in two key additions on the back end. First, Tyler Amaral from the Dudley Hewitt Cup Champs, Oakville Blades was brought into bolster the backend. Tyler played 60+ games last season and put up 8 points. Next, Mason Piercey was brought in from the Brockville Braves of the CCHL. Mason is a Burlington native and spent the last two years playing in the highly successful Brockville system.
Not to long after, the Jr. A Canadiens struck a trade with the Stouffville Spirit that saw them acquire the rights to Rizvan Mansurov and Matteo DiBlasio. Rizvan led Stouffville in scoring last season and is familiar with Coach Bellissimo from his previous experience with the Aurora Tigers. Matteo DiBlasio will bring a veteran presence and add a physical element to the team.
As a result of the Newmarket Hurricanes moving to the Milton area, the teams players became Free Agents on July 1st. The Jr. A Canadiens were able to sign top scorer Claudio DeGasperis and third year physical defenseman Klim Georgiev from the defunct Newmarket team. DeGasperis will undoubtably be one of the most dangerous offensive forwards in the league next season and Georgiev has developed very nicely in his first two seasons in the OJHL and is ready for his new opportunity.
Thomas McKeown will be joining the Toronto Jr. A Candiens after splitting last season with the Oakville Blades and Toronto Patriots. Thomas was deemed a Free Agent as a result of the OJHL Trade Deadline issues. Thomas returns to the Jr. Canadiens Organization after getting his start at the ‘AAA’ level with the club.
Finally, the Jr. A Canadiens signed Nick Cordeiro from the Hamilton Kilty B’s. Nick just finished his Rookie Year at the Junior level with a successful season in the GOJHL. Nick’s development has been monitored closely by our staff and he will bring a lot to the table next season.
Stay tuned for more player signings to be announced in the coming days. Welcome aboard gentlemen!
