Canadiens name Fukakusa captain
Toronto - The Toronto Jr A Canadiens announced today that forward and RIT Commit Tyler Fukakusa has been named the team's captain ahead of the 2022 - 2023 Ontario Junior Hockey League Season.
Fukakusa, 19, served as an alternate captain during the 2021 - 2022 season and assumes the role of captain from Liam Fedak who has moved on to play at the University of Waterloo this fall.
“Tyler Fukakusa was an easy choice for us to take over the reins from outgoing captain Liam Fedak" said Head Coach Vince Bellissimo. "Tyler embodies the exact type of person and player that we build our program on. We know that Tyler will lead and guide our players in their day-to-day both physically and mentally. We are extremely excited for what is to come in the 2022/2023 season and look forward to another great year of OJHL hockey with Tyler Fukakusa as our team captain".
Last season appearing in 53 regular season games and 15 playoff games, the forward tallied 30 goals and 78 assists which set a franchise record for most assists in a single regular season in franchise history.
"It's definitely an honour and privilege to be named captain of such a successful organization and I'm super excited to have this opportunity" said Fukakusa. "We have an amazing group of guys this year so I think it's really important we are all connected early and everyone buys into what we are trying to establish. I'm looking forward to the responsibility and I can't wait to get things started".
