Pats take down Flyers in sweep
The Toronto Patriots are into the second round.
A four-game sweep of the Orangeville Flyers was completed Friday night when a two-goal performance by assistant captain Colton Kalezic paced the No. 1 seeded Pats to a 4-0 win in Orangeville.
Kyler Matthews and Max Routledge also had goals, as the former’s one-time finish from in tight at 7:38 of the second period on a feed from Evan Benwell held up as the game winner.
Tyler Fassl made 30 stops for his third shutout of the post-season.
Lee Lapid’s three goals and eight points paced the club over a four-game set in which Toronto outscored the No. 8 Flyers 25-1.
Despite the big-time offensive production, Fassl was brilliant in net, allowing a single goal on 124 shots, a bevy of which were of the Grade A variety.
No less than 12 different Toronto skaters scored at least a goal in the series, while all but two that dressed recorded at least a point.
