Titans Split With Nashua In Doubleheader
Game one of the double header was a make up from a postponement on June 25. The game picked up in the bottom of the second, Nashua leading 1-0 and one out in the inning.
Torrington’s Josh Simms picked up a RBI in the bottom of the second to tie the score at 1-1.
In the fifth inning the Titans grabbed the lead at 3-1.Aarron Nardone came to bat with the bases loaded. Nardone hit a grounder to first that was bobbled and allowed a run to score. Ryan Plourde scored by tagging on Cole Harrison’s sacrifice fly.
Nashua scored to make it 2-3. Mark Sanborn scored on a sacrifice fly hit by Dan Gusovsky.
The Titans scored in the sixth when Darryl Wilson executed a suicide squeeze sending in Josh Simms for a 4-2 lead.
In the top of the seventh the Silver Knights scored two runs to tie the game at four. Both runs were scored on two bases loaded walks. Kyle Neverman drew a walk and Rob Benedict scored. Logan Gillis scored next when Jon Minucci worked a walk.
Tyler Wilson pitched 4 innings (3rd-6th) in the no decision. Joey Donino came in the seventh for relief. Evan Chamberlain entered the game in the eighth.
Nashua took the lead in the eighth with another bases loaded walk.
In the bottom of the ninth Dylan Maki entered the game to pitch for the Silver Knights. Maki hit a batter and then walked Darryl Wilson to put two runners on with no outs. Aarron Nardone hit a laser to right field good for a double and a RBI to tie the game at five. Josh Band then hit a walk-off single to score Darryl Wilson and the winning run. The final score was Titans 6, Nashua 5.
In the second game (seven innings) Bobby Chatfield started on the mound for the Titans and went seven innings striking out four.
Nashua scored the game’s first runs in the fourth and went up 3-0. Kyle Neverman’s single scored Kyle Adie. Brandon Cox and Sean Lyons came around to score the Silver Knights other runs. The three runs proved to be all the Silver Knights needed to pick up the win.
Torrington has a half game lead on the Silver Knights for first place in the FCBL.
Silver Knights starting pitcher, Lamarre Rey pitched seven innings allowing zero runs and giving up only three hits in the win.
Torrington’s next home game is Thursday July 28 against the Seacoast Mavericks. First pitch is 7 pm.
