Nighthawks Release 2021 Schedule and Free Admission
The 2021 Nighthawks schedule is out and baseball is back in the Upper Valley. The Nighthawks will embark on a 42 game schedule starting with a road game against the Keene Swampbats on June 4th followed by the home opener against the Winnipesaukee Muskrats on June 5th. The Covid-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of the 2020 season and the Nighthawks have not taken the field since an August 1st, 2019 loss to the Valley Blue Sox.
"This is an exciting day for our organization and for the community," stated Nighthawks President Noah Crane. "We were hopeful about the prospect of a 2021 season and are both relieved and thrilled that we will be playing games and entertaining our fans this summer."
The release of the schedule is not the only good news the Nighthawks have to share. The Nighthawks are offering free admission to all 21 home games this summer. "As a way to reward our community for enduring a difficult and stressful year we want this season to be one of celebration and a return to normalcy," said Crane. "Be our guests this summer and come enjoy all of the great baseball, great food, and great people. We are immensely grateful for our partners Mascoma Bank and the Jack and Dorothy Byrne Foundation for their support which enabled us to offer free tickets to everyone." Samantha Pause, Mascoma Bank's Chief Marketing Officer, added, "Mascoma Bank is excited to announce our continued support of the Upper Valley Nighthawks by providing funding that allows our community free admission to all their games this summer. We hope to see new and familiar faces down at the Maxfield Sports Complex enjoying games. We are proud supporters of the Nighthawks as we work together to bring baseball back to our local community."
The 2021 season will see two familiar faces as Nighthawk alumnus, Bryant Bowen, will manage the team and Hartford High School graduate, Jordy Allard returns for his third summer. The 2021 season has two changes from years past as a new team has joined the NECBL and a new scheduling format has been adopted. The North Shore Navigators give the NECBL their 14th team and call historic Fraser Field in Lynn, Massachusetts home. The Navigators will join the Nighthawks in the NECBL's Northern Division. To limit travel, the league will not play cross divisional games in 2021. The Nighthawks will only see the Southern Division teams (Valley Blue Sox, Bristol Blues, Danbury Westerners, Mystic Schooners, Ocean State Waves, Newport Gulls, and Martha's Vineyard Sharks) if they reach the championship series.
The Governor's Cup Series against Green Mountain State rival, the Vermont Mountaineers, will kick off on June 10th at Recreation Field in Montpelier. Six more games will follow with the final game of the series at Maxfield on July 21st. The Nighthawks are the reigning Governor's Cup champion and look to retain the trophy in 2021.
