Tampa Takes Down Florida Atlantic and Miami
CLEARWATER, Florida. - The Tampa Spartans Men’s Hockey Team scored 8 goals on Friday night to take the first game of the weekend over FAU.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
Final: FAU 2, Tampa 8
Records: Tampa (4-1-0), FAU (3-1-0)

HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 1:
1st Period
● Spartans started off the scoring with a goal from Junior Matthew Needleman with assists from Connor Berry and Christian Kukas
● Tampa added another on a goal from Co-President Billy Cody with assists from Eric Pedro and Christian Kukas
● FAU cut the Spartans’ lead in half with a goal only three minutes later
● Junior Frank Catalina scores for the Spartans to increase the lead to 2
● Tampa freshman Nico Evangelous scored off a wrist shot from the point to make the score 4-1 UT
2nd Period
- Another got goal got added to Tampa’s lead by Michael Pettijohn on the powerplay with assists from alternate captains Josey Davis and Stephen Buck
- Billy Cody got his second of the night on 2-on-1 from Josey Davis
- FAU scored on a 3-on-3 breakaway making the score 6-2 in favor of UT
3rd Period
- With his second of the night, Frank Catalina gives the Spartans a 7-2 lead, with an assist awarded to Gus Aldridge
- The final goal of the night belongs to Connor Berry to seal an 8-2 victory for the Spartans
GAME 2: UT vs. Miami
CLEARWATER, Florida. - The Tampa Spartans Men’s Hockey Team closes out the weekend with a win over the University of Miami Hurricanes.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
Final: Miami 4, Tampa 5
Records: Miami (1-1-0), Tampa (5-1-0)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
1st Period
● Within the first minute Tampa’s Michael Pettijohn scores with assists from Ryan Murray and Josey Davis
● Spartans added on another one with a goal from Billy Cody and assists from Frank Catalina and Cam Sacco
● The Spartans increased the lead to 3 goals with a goal from sophomore Connor McMahan and assists awarded to captains Christian Kukas and Grant Parrish
● Miami got one back late in the period to make it 3-1 UT after 1 period
2nd Period
- Miami scored in the first minute cutting the Spartans’ lead down to only 1
- Another goal was added on by the Hurricanes to tie the game at 3 after 2 periods
3rd Period
● Sophomore Jake Karant breaks the tie halfway through the period to give the lead back to Tampa
● 30 seconds later, alternate captain Stephen Buck extended the lead by another making the score 5-3.
● Miami scored one last goal to close out the game with a score of 5-4 Tampa
