Tampa and USF Tie In Game 2 of the Battle of the Bay
WESLEY CHAPEL, Florida. - The Tampa Spartans Men’s Hockey Team scored 4 goals on Friday night as they ended up with a tie against USF.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
Final: USF 4, Tampa 4
Records: Tampa (6-1-1), USF (3-4-1)
Location: Advent Health Center | Wesley Chapel, FL
HOW IT HAPPENED IN THE GAME:
1st Period
● USF started off the scoring with a powerplay goal to give USF a 1-0 lead
● Tampa’s Matthew Needleman tied the game up with a goal and an assist from freshman Nico Evangelous
● Needleman kept the scoring going with another goal to now give Tampa the one goal lead
● USF scored on another powerplay to tie the game at 2 to end the first.
2nd Period
- The Spartans dominated this period in shots 14 to 6, but neither team could seem to find the back of the net.
3rd Period
- Spartans’ sophomore Jack Manware got his first career goal on a rebound on a shot from Billy Cody
- Tampa’s lead was extended by sophomore Connor Berry with assist from Frank Catalina and Jake Thain making the score now 4-2 in favor of Tampa
- USF cut the lead in half with an unassisted breakaway goal with the score now being 4-3
- With 3:50 left in the game USF tied up the game to end regulation at 4
OT
- Neither team could score in the 3-on-3 overtime, so the game ended in a tie with a score of 4-4
