Spartans Sweep in Buffalo

Buffalo, New York. - The Tampa Spartans Men’s Hockey Team scored 6 goals on Friday night to take their first road game in Buffalo against University At Buffalo Bulls.

 

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

 

Final: University At Buffalo 1, Tampa 6

Records: Tampa (11-1-1), University At Buffalo (4-7-0)

Location: Northtown Center | Williamsville, NY

 

HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 1:

 

1st Period

  •       It took a little bit for the scoring to start, but the Spartans strike first with a goal from Alternate Captain Josey Davis with assists from Christian Kukas and Evan Hoffberg.
  •       The Spartans’ lead was extended to 2 with a goal from Junior Frank Catalina ending the period 2-0.

 

2nd Period

  •  Late in the 2nd period Senior Ryan Murray with a one timer with a pass from Josey Davis.
  • Almost immediately after, the Bulls scored to make the score 3-1 Spartans to end the period.

 

3rd Period

  •  The Spartans continued to score three more goals in the 3rd period to make the final score 6-1, with the goals coming from Billy Cody, Grant Parrish, and Gus Aldridge, as the Spartans take the first game of the weekend against the University of Buffalo Bulls.

 

GAME 2: UT vs. Buffalo State College

BUFFALO, New York. - The Tampa Spartans Men’s Hockey Team scores 6 goals against Buffalo State to take game 2 in Buffalo out of their three-game trip.

 

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

 

Final: Buffalo State 0, Tampa 6

Records: Tampa (12-1-1), Buffalo State (7-2-0)

Location: Buffalo State Ice Arena | Buffalo, NY

 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

 

1st Period

  •        No goals were scored in this period, but Freshman Shea Grant for the Spartans had many great saves to keep the score 0-0.

 

2nd Period

  • The first goal of the game was scored by Senior Gus Aldridge on a 2-on-1 shot to give the Spartans the first lead of the game.
  • Soon after Tampa scored again from Ryan Andrews of a a shot from Senior Ryan Murray.
  • The last goal of the period was scored by Junior Frank Catalina to give the Spartans a three-goal lead.

 

3rd Period

  •       Spartans’ Stephen Buck kept the scoring going as he scored with assists from Michael Pettijohn and Evan Hoffberg
  •       The Spartans’ President Billy Cody blocked a shot and went down on a 2-on-0 and passed it over to Ryan Andrews to make the lead 5-0.
  •       The final goal of the game was scored by Senior Alternate Captain Josey Davis with a snipe on a 1-on-4 to make the final score 6-0.

 

GAME 3: UT vs. St. John Fisher College

BUFFALO, New York. - The Tampa Spartans Men’s Hockey Team scores 8 goals against St. John Fisher College to complete the sweep in Buffalo.

 

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

 

Final: St. John Fisher 2, Tampa 8

Records: Tampa (13-1-1), St. John Fisher (3-3-0)

Location: Cazenovia Ice Rink | Buffalo, NY

 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

 

1st Period

  •       After a hard fought few minutes, Tampa Sophomore Jack Manware finally broke the ice of scoring by netting a rebound goal.
  •       Soon after on a 2-on-1 Freshman Nico Evangelous scored on a nice pass from Frank Catalina to give the Spartans a 2-0 lead.
  •       St. John Fisher responds by scoring on a 2-on-2 to cut Tampa’s lead in half to end the 1st period.

 

2nd Period

  • Senior Ryan Murray of the Spartans increased their lead by walking around the goalie for his first goal of the game.
  • Tampa continued their scoring with a goal from Senior Evan Hoffberg to make the score 4-1
  • Hoffberg buried another one on a breakaway to give him two goals on the day
  • The Spartans scoring did not stop there as Junior Matthew Needleman scores one to increase the lead even more to 5 goals.
  • Needleman scored again to give him two goals on the day and the Spartans a 7-1 lead to end the period

 

3rd Period

  • St. John Fisher did not stop there as they got one back now making the lead of the Spartans 7-2
  • Finally to end the scoring, Tampa Sophomore Vinny Digorgio scored to make the final score 8-2

  •       The Spartans look to capture more wins against USF and Miami in December to end the semester.
