Overview

For the first time in UVM ACHA Men's Hockey history, the Catamounts will host the New Jersey Institute of Technology. UVM battled the Highlanders in Newark, NJ at the Barnabas Health Hockey House during the 2017-18 season. Stopping by NJIT on the front half of a New York City road trip, the Catamounts took down the Highlanders by a score of 6-0. Among returning 2018-19 players, UVM received scoring from Harrison Naylor (2 goals) and Henrik Nilsson, with Monty Cunningham contributing to a two-man shutout.

NJIT Preview

The Highlanders return their top scorer, William Hoer, for his senior year. The defenseman tallied 32 points in 22 games during the 2017-18 season and has posted 71 total points during his three-year ACHA career. In net, NJIT brings back their starter, Matthew Altomare. Altomare was solid during the 2017-18 season, recording a .915 S% and 5-5-0 record in 13 games played. NJIT finished their year with a 11-13-0 overall record and 9-9-0 in the CSCHC. NJIT ultimately missed their league playoffs by one point in the standings.

UVM Outlook

UVM returns most of a young roster from the 2017-18 season. In addition to their 19 returners, the Catamounts brought in 7 talented freshmen. UVM also added 4 returning UVM students, including former NCAA Div. I lacrosse player Connor van Ryn, and welcomed High Point University transfer Alex Day. Sophomore Monty Cunningham will take over for the graduated Ethan Loo as UVM's starting goaltender. Cunningham posted a .887 S% and 3.77 GAA in 8 games played as a freshman and will look to build on that success throughout his sophomore campaign. UVM will be led by its three upperclassmen captains, Naylor (Sr. F), Connor Bradley (Sr. D), and Jack Levinsky (Jr. F).
