UMass Defeats UVM 4-3 in OT

Sunday, 10/7 vs. University of Massachusetts-Amherst

UVM was defeated for the first time this season by the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, falling 4-3 in overtime. UVM got off to a fast start, with first period tallies coming from Beck Heil and Joey Konvit. Penalties allowed UMass back into the game and the Minutemen tied things up on the powerplay with under a minute to go in the first. UMass took the lead on the powerplay in the second period and maintained a 3-2 advantage heading into the third. UVM would immediately knot things up, as a powerplay point blast from Cole Garabed leaked through the UMass goaltender. Things would remain tied until UMass scored on a two-on-one in overtime with 15 seconds left on the clock. The player of the game of sophomore goaltender Monty Cunningham, who turned aside 54/58 Minutemen shots on goal. Through three starts, Cunningham maintains a .935 S% and 2.62 GAA.

Looking Ahead

UVM (4-0-0-1) will use this week to rest and prepare for two NECHA bouts this upcoming weekend. On Saturday, 10/13, UVM will take a day trip to Southern New Hampshire University (0-1-0) for a showdown against the Penmen. The following day, the Catamounts host divisional rival UConn (1-1-0-1).
