UVM Defeats SNHU and UConn
Saturday, 10/13
On Saturday, the Catamounts took a day trip to Hooksett, NH for a NECHA matchup against Southern New Hampshire University. After falling behind 2-0 early, Cole Garabed tucked a powerplay goal to make it 2-1 at the end of the first. Early in the second, an odd bounce gave the Catamounts a 2-on-0 shorthanded break and Harrison Naylor fed Jack Levinsky to knot the score up at two goals apiece. UVM would score twice more in the second period off of point shots. Tom Pawlitschek scored his first career goal off the pants of a SNHU defender and Cole Garabed wired home another powerplay tally to give UVM a 4-2 lead entering the third. SNHU would score late to make it a 4-3 game, but UVM held on for the win. Dana Marsh earned the victory in net, stopping 19/22 Penmen shots.
Sunday, 10/14
On Sunday, UVM returned home for a Patriot-West Divisional game against the University of Connecticut. In a defensive battle marred by penalties, UVM would escape with a 2-1 victory over the Huskies. Tom Pawlitschek's point shot snuck through a maze of bodies to give UVM a 1-0 lead in the second period. UConn would return the favor not long after, tying the game 1-1 entering the third. A Cole Garabed point shot rattled around in front before it was tapped home by freshman Joey Konvit, and the Catamounts would preserve the lead to earn the victory. Monty Cunningham was sensational in net, turning aside 36/38 Connecticut attempts. With this win, the Catamounts moved to 6-0-0-1 overall with a 1-0-0-1 record in their division.
Looking Ahead
As the Cats enter the bulk of their regular season games, they will face off twice against Norwich University in a home-and-home series. This "Battle of Vermont" will begin on Friday night when UVM travels to Kreitzberg Arena to face the Cadets. The teams will rest on Saturday before reconvening on Sunday at Gutterson Fieldhouse.
