#15 Catamounts Return for Spring Term
After a month-long break from classes and hockey, the University of Vermont Catamounts ACHA men's hockey team has returned to Burlington for their spring semester. Currently ranked #15 in the Northeast Region, but having been as high as #11, a postseason berth is within reach for the Catamounts. Qualifying for the Northeast Regional Tournament would be a first for UVM since 2011. While adjusting to new classes and some freezing Vermont weather, the Catamounts turn their attention to the first and second of eight spring semester games.
Weekend Preview
On Saturday, 1/19 #15 UVM will host #8 Keene State College. The division rivalry between the Catamounts and the Owls is as heated as ever, but Keene has enjoyed several consecutive victories over Vermont. In a game with major postseason implications, UVM will look to get back on track after finishing the fall semester 0-1-1 against unranked Boston University.
On Sunday, 1/20 the Catamounts will continue their homestand against unranked Southern New Hampshire University. The Catamounts and Penmen will square off for a second time in 2018-19; on 10/13, UVM skated away 4-3 victors over SNHU at the Ice Den in Hooksett, NH. The Catamounts overcame an early 2-0 deficit to defeat the hosts. In that game, Thomas Pawlitschek registered his first collegiate goal (and point), while Dana Marsh turned 19 out of 22 SNHU shots to earn the win in net.
Roster Changes
UVM would also like to recognize Henrik Nilsson (Vallentuna, SWE), who graduated from the University of Vermont with a B.S. in Exercise and Movement Science in December of 2018. Henrik was a four-year player for the Catamounts. He began his UVM career in the fall semester of 2013, but was forced to withdraw from school after suffering a major concussion in practice. He spent the 2014-15 season with the New England Stars (NA3HL) before returning to Burlington for his sophomore season. Henrik concluded his collegiate career with 25 points in 49 games played. We wish Henrik the best of luck as he enters the professional world!
Sophomore forward Zachary Ward (Massena, NY) was also removed from the roster at the end of the fall semester. He has chosen to leave the team to focus on his academics. We wish him the best in his future endeavors as well.
