Vermont Announces 2019-20 Schedule
The University of Vermont men's hockey club has announced its 2019-20 regular season schedule. The Catamounts will play a 24-game slate this year, playing 15 games at home and nine on the road. UVM will remain a part of the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) with its alignment in the D2 Northeast Region. In addition, the Catamounts will continue to compete in the Northeast Collegiate Hockey Association (NECHA) as part of the Patriot Conference, in the West Division. At the 2019 NECHA Spring Meeting, Norwich University was promoted to Patriot play from the NECHA American Conference and will join UVM, UMass Amherst, Keene State, Holy Cross, and UConn in the West Division. Per conference rules, each university will continue to play each other twice during the regular season.
UVM will play a home-heavy schedule during the fall semester. The Catamounts' season and home opener will take place at 8:00 PM on Saturday, 9/21 against UMass Lowell. Vermont will host the Riverhawks for two bouts at Gutterson Fieldhouse, with the second taking place at 2:00 PM on Sunday, 9/22. The following weekend, UVM will host another two-game series when Providence College comes to town. A week later, UVM will take its first road trip of the season, kicking off divisional play at Keene State on Friday, 10/4 at 7:30 PM in Keene, NH. The next day, the Catamounts will travel to first-time opponent UAlbany. From there, UVM will play a homestand of seven consecutive games against Bryant, Roger Williams, UMass Amherst, UConn (2), and Stevenson (2). The weekend of 11/9-11/11, UVM will play two games in Boston against Boston University and Suffolk University before traveling to Norwich and UMass Amherst to conclude the semester.
After the winter holiday, UVM will head down to RPI and Westfield State for the first games of the spring semester. The next weekend, Vermont will host Siena College and Holy Cross. A week later, the Catamounts will play one of their biggest games on the entire season, a 4:00 PM home bout against Keene State on Saturday, 2/1. The last weekend of the 2019-20 regular season will involve a 7:30 PM road game at Holy Cross on Friday, 2/7 and senior day against Norwich on Sunday, 2/9.
The University of Vermont's 2019-20 schedule is littered with historic rivals as well as a few new teams. Among first-time opponents for the Catamounts are UAlbany, Stevenson, Suffolk, and Westfield State. As always, UVM encourages any and all prospective players interested in trying out to email head coach Matthew Hopper at Matthew.Hopper@uvm.edu.
