Two former VBL pitchers, while not on the active postseason roster, earned their first World Series rings with the Boston Red Sox this weekend.

The Red Sox won a franchise-record 108 games and then rolled through a difficult postseason path- beating 100-win New York 3-1, 103-win Houston 4-1, and finishing off the Los Angeles Dodgers in five games in the World Series.

Reliever Tyler Thornburg made 25 appearances for the Red Sox this season after a long injury absence, going 2-0 with a 5.63 ERA before returning to the DL again in September.

Thornburg was a first team All-Valley League selection in 2008 for Winchester. He went 1-1 with a 1.48 ERA and ranked second in the league in saves (10).

Reliever Robby Scott has been with the Red Sox since 2016, and made nine relief appearances in the majors in 2018.

Scott played for the Covington Lumberjacks in 2010, making four starts and going 1-3.
