Former Staunton Brave and current Atlanta Brave Brian Snitker was named the National League Manager of the Year last night.
Snitker was honored after leading Atlanta to a 90-72 record, an 18-win improvement over the previous season, and a National League East crown.
Snitker was named the Interim Manager of the Braves in May 2016, but went on to earn the job full time after going 59-65 in charge (they were just 9-28 when he was hired).
He has now spent 43 years as a member of the Atlanta Braves organization, first as a minor league player from 1977-1980 and later as a manager at virtually every level of the organization. He was the MLB club’s bullpen coach in 1985 and 1988-90, and the third base coach from 2007-13.
Snitker played for the Staunton Braves in 1976 as a catcher, leading the Braves to the VBL championship that summer.
