TIGERS PRESS RELEASE FEBRUARY 9, 2016
Press Release
As the season came to an end so did the Tigers season. Even though the Tigers weren't mathematically eliminated from the post season there was optimism in the locker room.
The Tigers faced an up hill battle as they needed to pick up a minimum of 5 points in 3 games. The first test was a meeting with the Onion Lake Border Chiefs on Wednesday playing a neutral site game in Frog Lake.
The Cats came out and exchanged scoring chances all period with the Chiefs. Rookie dman Ryan Donald scored his first of the season 8 minutes in, opening the scoring. The lead was short lived as Onion responded less than 2 minutes later and eventually took a 2-1 lead heading into the 1st intermission.
The game was evenly matched with neither team opening team opening up too much. 5 minutes into the 3rd the Border Chiefs snuck one in and put the Tigers up against a wall. The yellow and black did manage to pull within one but eventually fell, ending their playoff hopes in the process. Veteran forward Lucas Dennill notched the other goal.
Saturday saw the Tigers face a pride situation as Frog Lake rolled into Vermilion. The Tigers came out on the winning side of a 5-3 finish. It was goalie Brendan Plant's first win as a member of the Tigers. 20 year old forward Ian Gadsby scored twice, overager Trent Dutchak notched one, Lucas Dennill continued his hot play adding one and Bryce Stepanick scored the eventual game winner (although Spencer Ross will argue who scored)
Sunday saw the Jungle Cats wrap up the season facing the Vegreville Rangers in an afternoon matinee. The Tigers skated and battled hard but it wasn't meant to be. The Rangers came away with a 4-3 win as the Tigers said goodbye to 3 overage players.
Spencer Ross, Trent Dutchak and Nolan Blair all played their final games in a Tigers jersey. The team is grateful for their contributions to the hockey club and wishes them all the best in their future indevours. Watch for a season wrap up next week and thank you for following the Tigers all season.
