The biggest crowd of the season was on hand Sunday at the Waterloo Memorial Recreation Centre to watch the Waterloo Siskins improve their season record to 11 wins and 1 loss maintaining their 1st place standing in the GOJHL Midwestern conference. The Cambridge Red Hawks held the Siskins to a 0-0 first period with some solid goaltending by Cambridge netminder REAGAN GIES but the Siskins pounded GIES with 55 total shots leaving the young tender little to no chance on many of the Waterloo 8 goals.

Alex Lycett (Photo #1 of Oct 21, 2018 Album) lead the Siskins with 3 power play goals as the Waterloo power play was deadly on Sunday scoring 4 times on 5 attempts. Waterloo has a “1 and 1A” power play this season clipping along at a 28% power play success rate after 12 games this year. Other goal scorers included OWEN LANE who netted the first two Siskins goals (Photo #3 of Oct 21, 2018 Album), SAM CHERRY, JUSTIN ZUBER and SAM SPAEDT. 16 year old Cambridge native JOSEPH SERPA had 4 assists on the day for Waterloo. DEVYN ORPANO scored the lone Cambridge Red Hawk goal.

2000 birth year MACHUS TURNER (Photo #2 of Oct 21, 2018 Album) had another strong performance in net for Waterloo turning aside 23 of 24 shots keeping his record a perfect 7-0 on the season.

Waterloo faced off against the Stratford Warriors Friday night in Stratford with first place on the line in the second meeting between these two teams this season. Waterloo defeated the Warriors in Waterloo earlier in the year 4-2. The fans were treated to an excellent playoff type match with great pace and close checking. ALEX LYCETT scored the game winner, a power play marker at 11:47 of the second frame. SAM CHERRY also scored for Waterloo in the first period along with DRAYTON DUCKET and CURTIS RAWN empty net tallies. The final score was Waterloo 4 and Stratford 1.

Come and see you’re Waterloo Siskins this Sunday at home, 1:30 at the WMRC as they face off with the Kitchener Dutchmen.
