Final ranking of 2017 released
The ACHA released the final West Region ranking of the calendar year Wednesday and San Diego State, Cal State Northridge and Long Beach State all remained in the top 20.
SDSU moved up one spot to 8th and is still in a Regionals spot. CSUN remained at 17th while LBSU moved up one spot to 18th. The gap between CSUN and 12th, the final Regionals spot, is just .68 points. Long Beach trails by 1.1 points.
The top two teams in each of the four regions in Division 2 receive auto bids to Nationals. Teams ranked 3-12 qualify for Regionals. The two teams that survive the single elimination Regional Tournament also advance to Nationals. Weber State is hosting Regionals and for the second consecutive year Nationals will be hosted in Columbus, Ohio.
Last season San Diego and CSUN represented the WCHC at Regionals. SDSU was the No. 9 seed and beat UCLA handily in the first round before losing to Utah State in overtime in the second round. CSUN was the No. 10 seed and lost to Metro State in the first round. It was the first Regionals appearance for CSUN in Division 2.
