San Diego State vs Long Beach State
The Aztecs and 49ers split the season series. SDSU took the first game in Poway on November 18th 6-5 but LBSU got revenge on the final night of the regular season in Lakewood handing the Aztecs their only regulation loss 6-3.
SDSU is trying to make the WCHC championship game in back-to-back seasons since re-joining the conference. Meanwhile LBSU is trying to make the championship for the first time since 2014 when they came up short to Northern Arizona. Each team has made the championship game once but has yet to claim the WCHC title.
Cal State Fullerton vs Cal State Northridge
The Titans swept the Matadors during the regular season both times scoring late to earn one goal victories 4-3 and 5-4. After the season there was a three way tie for second place and Fullerton earned the No. 2 seed by having the most victories head-to-head between CSUN and LBSU with three. CSUN clinched the No. 3 seed by virtue of sweeping the 49ers.
The Matadors became the first California team to win the WCHC title last season coming from behind to beat SDSU 4-3. CSUN is also trying to make the championship game for the third year in a row after coming up just short to Arizona State two seasons ago 3-2.
Fullerton is back in the playoffs for the first time since 2015 when they made their only appearance in the championship game losing to Northern Arizona.
