CSUN repeats as champions
HARBOR CITY, Calif.- Cal State Northridge became the second school to repeat as WCHC champions Saturday beating Long Beach State 4-0.
Vincent Sepe earned his third career shutout and was the winning goalie for both WCHC titles.
Eli Berengut scored the only goal the Matadors would need at 3:21 of the first period. Berengut slid the puck through the 49er defenders legs, skated past his left side and roofed it to score the game winning goal in back-to-back WCHC title games. Andre Ramirez doubled the CSUN lead 2:09 later firing the puck home from the right circle.
Ramirez scored his second of the game at 16:20 of the second. CSUN won a face-off in their left circle, Levi Bolls flipped the puck down the ice, Ramirez tracked it down and once again scored from the right circle.
Long Beach received a five minute major in the third and with 11 seconds remaining on the power play at 10:24 Bolls put the game away with a slap shot from the left point.
CSUN had to come from behind in a dramatic semifinal game against Cal State Fullerton. The Titans had a 2-0 lead in the second when CSUN narrowed the gap to one. Berengut tied the game in the third and Matt Hoover was the hero in overtime converting on an odd man rush for the Matadors.
In the Third Place game San Diego State swept Fullerton on the year with an 8-5 victory.
