Wolves Weekend Recap (02/21-02/22)

The Wenatchee Wolves have closed their first official season in the NPHL and they are going into the playoffs on a very impressive five game win streak. Wenatchee has had an incredibly strong season and they have most certainly proved themselves and why they should be the ones taking home the Cascade Cup at the end of this post season. This team has created an amazing team chemistry throughout this season and that will definitely come to their aid in the first round of the playoffs which will be against the Bellingham Blazers. The Wolves had their last two games this past weekend and on Saturday they played their last home game against Eugene whereas Sunday had them facing off against the Tri-Cities Outlaws. Saturday's match brought a 4-2 win for the Wolves and Sunday's game gave Wenatchee a 10-1 victory to end the regular season with. 02/21/15 - Wenatchee Wolves U18 vs. Eugene Generals: In their last home game of the season, the Wolves took on the Generals in the Town Toyota Center. At the end of the night, Wenatchee would send the Generals back to Oregon after they took the game with a 4-2 win. Joshua Chamberlain and Andrew Lee were awarded the 1st and 2nd Stars of the Game. Hayden Givens got the scoring ball rolling for this game five minutes and twenty six seconds into the first period with his power play goal that was assisted by Conor McNamara. 37 seconds later, Addison Wells put the Generals on the board when he was fed the puck by Jared McDaniel. Ending the first period with the lead, Joshua Chamberlain gave the Wolves their second goal at the 16:28 minute mark. Andrew Lee and Connor Dunn were credited with the assists. Dunn scored the lone point of a tough middle frame one minute and thirteen seconds after the opening faceoff. Lee and Chamberlain were successful in their attempts to get the biscuit to Connor. Joshua scored the last Wenatchee goal on the power play twelve minutes and forty two seconds into the period. Hunter Alden and Andrew Lee brought in the last of the Wolves' assists. This game ended with an unassisted goal which was scored by Eugene's Dustin Gomez at the 16:37 minute mark. The Wolves ended this match with 40 total shots on goal and 7 infractions. Penalties were called out on Hayden Givens (Tripping), Max Roth (Tripping) (Slashing), Coach Ryan McKelvie (Unsportsmanlike Conduct), Jack Edgell (Delay of Game), and Brayden Durante (Unsportsmanlike Conduct) (Unsportsmanlike Conduct (Misconduct)). Max Flynn was in between the pipes for Wenatchee for the full 60 minutes and was able to stop 15 shots on goal out of 17. 02/22/15 - Wenatchee Wolves U18 vs. Tri-Cities Outlaws: In their final game of the 2014-2015 season, the team loaded up the bus and traveled to take on the Outlaws in the NPHL's last scheduled game. After three periods, the Wolves would head back home with the 10-1 final. The lone goal of the first period and the start of this ten goal game was scored by Connor Dunn on the power play three minutes and forty nine seconds into the opening frame. Andrew Lee and Eric Williams picked up the first assists of this match. Roughly four minutes after the start of the second period, Hayden Givens put the Wolves up 2-0 when he was given the puck by Conor McNamara and Patrick Obney. Four minutes and forty four seconds into the frame, Christopher Helms gave the Outlaws their first and last goal when he received the puck on a pass from Tyler Thorn. Joshua Chamberlain scored his first point of the match eleven minutes and forty seconds into the period with the assistance of Hunter Alden and Andrew Lee. Ty Flynn gave Wenatchee the 4-1 lead with his goal that occurred at 13:48. Connor Dunn and Conor McNamara assisted on the point that would close out the scoring for the second period. Starting off a six goal frame with his point three minutes and thirty nine seconds after the initial puck drop, Denton Hymer gave the Wolves a four point lead with his goal that was assisted solely by Griffin Wiencek. Jack Edgell was the next Wenatchee skater to net a goal after he recorded an unassisted short handed point five minutes and eleven seconds into the period. Looking to join in on the scoring explosion, Brayden Durante lit the Outlaws' goal lamp at the 9:37 minute mark with his unassisted point. Following his team mates' trend, Jack Edgell put the Wolves up 8-1 with his second goal of the night that was assisted by both Zach Frasier and Max Roth. Almost one minute later, Frasier scored a point of his own when he received the puck from Hayden Givens and Griffin Wiencek. Durante scored the last regular season goal with 45 seconds left in the closing period. Brayden picked up assists from Denton Hymer and Hayden Givens. The Wolves ended their final match with an incredible 70 shots on goal and only three infractions. Penalties were given to Coach Ryan McKelvie (Delay of Game) (Bench Minor), Andrew Lee (Slashing), and Cam DuFault (Roughing). Bronson Moore was the night's winning goaltender with 10 saves on 11 shots on goal. To quote Coach McKelvie, "This weekend was a good finish to the regular season. I think our guys feel good headed into play-offs and we are excited for the challenge this week. It's been a great group and we hope to extend this season as long as we can." The Wolves' 2014-2015 NPHL Playoff run will begin tonight, February 24th, with the first post season game taking place in Wenatchee against their round one opponent; the Bellingham Blazers.
