U16/U18 October Recap
U16 Wilderness
The Wilderness traveled across time zones twice in the month of October, with their first trip being to the their first showcase for the ECEL, traveling to Boston to open the month. Starting the weekend strong, they came out on top of their first game over Bishops College, 5-1. They hit a rough patch after that, dropping their next two games to Hill Academy and Elite Hockey, by scores of 2-4 and 2-6, respectively. Their final game of the weekend came against Boston Advantage, and while they compete hard, they came up just short, falling 2-3 in overtime.
Their second trip was to Omaha, NE, to compete in the Omaha USHL showcase. Drawing a tough schedule, the Wilderness saw themselves defeated by the Minnesota Blue Army and then the Milwaukee Jr. Admirals. Turning the weekend around, the Wilderness defeated the CO Springs Tiger 6-4, then followed it up with a huge, nail biting 4-3 overtime win against the St. Louis Jr. Blues.
The Wilderness finished a tough October schedule with a record of 3-4-1, and look to keep their momentum going into the CCM Chicago Showcase, where they will begin by facing off against 2 of the top 20 teams in the country, as well as hosting a BCHL showcase in Wenatchee.
Rylan Yates lead the charge offensively for the Wilderness, picking up 11 points (7G,4A) in 8 games. Khyle Flynn (3G, 6A) and Cade Littler (2G, 7A) followed suit, each collecting 9 points.
U18 Wolves
October saw the Wolves play 10 games in 31 days, while traveling twice in the process. The month started with the Wolves hosting Portland for two games, where the Wolves won both games by a score of 4-1. From there, Wenatchee traveled to Boston for their first ECEL showcase. Their first league game was against the Mercer Chiefs, and the Wolves held strong and sealed another victory, 3-1. From there though, the Wolves faced tough opponents in the Boston Advantage, Elite Hockey, and the NE Generals, dropping 3 straight by scores of 0-5, 1-3, and 2-4, respectively.
Their next trip was to Omaha, to compete alongside the U16 Wilderness in the USHL Showcase. Facing the Des Moines Buccaneers, the Wolves jumped out to a 2-0 lead before seeing it vanish, ultimately surrendering 4 goals to fall 2-4. Facing Sioux Falls next, the Wolves again were leading in the game, before again letting off the gas and falling by another 2-4 margin. Their third game was against the MN Blizzard, and for the third time in 3 games the Wolves held at least a one goal lead. And again, for the third game, the Wolves let the lead go, and dropped a third game, this time to 4-5. In their final game of the weekend, the Wolves faced the Indy Fuel. Jumping out to yet another lead, Wenatchee made sure to not let this one slip away, and held on for a 4-2 win.
Finishing the month 4-6, the Wolves learned a valuable lesson about holding onto leads, as they let 3 games slip away from them.
Not including the games against Portland, Tuli Eisenbeis lead the way for Wenatchee, collecting 9 points (2G, 7A) in 8 games. From there, Jake Parent (2G,3A), Jake Measel (4G,1A), and Andrew Nieusma (4G,1) all had 5 points.
